Ivor Cutler

Cult poet and musician Ivor Cutler has died at the age of 83.

Born into a middle-class family in Glasgow, Cutler served with the RAF  in World War 2, becoming a teacher when the war ended. He began composing music properly at the age of 34,
claiming that he only decided to perform his own material because no one else would use his songs. He performed frequently on the BBC, often accompanied by a harmonium. Cutler’s fans
included John Peel, who regularly invited him to appear on his radio show, and The Beatles, who gave him a role in the film Magical Mystery Tour.

Cutler released many records over his lifetime, including the 1967 album Ludo, which was re-released in 1997 by Creation.
